Hut to Hut Adventure

Adventure Details
July 24th-26th, gear up for a wild 3-day, 2-night escapade in the backcountry of New Hampshire's White Mountains with your guides Candace and Katie, where the views are epic and the Wi-Fi is almost nonexistent!

Day 1, we’ll kick things off at the Old Bridle Path trailhead at Lafayette Place Campground and tackle a thrilling 3.3-mile climb up to Greenleaf Hut, gaining about 2,700 feet of elevation, think of it as a leg burner that comes with one of the best views in the White Mountains.
We’ll start under the canopy before steadily climbing toward open granite ledges with sweeping views of Franconia Notch State Park. The higher we go, the bigger the sky gets. Expect rugged terrain, exposed sections, and that classic alpine energy that makes you feel small in the best way.
Once we arrive at Greenleaf Hut (perched at 4,200 feet just below Mount Lafayette), we’ll drop our packs, claim our cozy bunk spots, and settle in. Dinner is served family-style by the legendary hut Croo, and yes, it somehow tastes five times better after a climb like that.
As the sun sets, step outside. The ridge glows, the wind settles, and if the skies are clear, we’ll be treated to a canopy of unforgettable stars stretching over the Whites.
Welcome to Day 2! We’ll wake up at Greenleaf Hut to the Croo serenade, fuel up with a hearty breakfast, and pack up for what is the most challenging day of the trip.
Today’s journey to Galehead Hut covers approximately 7.5 miles with about 2,400 feet of elevation gain, plus significant descent along the way. We’ll traverse the exposed Franconia Ridge, descend steeply, then climb again over Garfield before pushing deep into the Pemigewasset Wilderness.
This stretch is widely considered one of the hardest hut-to-hut hikes in the White Mountains. Rugged terrain, relentless ups and downs, and long miles between shelters. It’s a true test of grit and endurance.
But it’s also wildly rewarding. Big views. Big effort. Big accomplishment.
We’ll arrive at Galehead tired, proud, and ready for another legendary hut dinner and a well-earned rest.
Day 3: Descent from Galehead Hut! After one last Croo serenade and a hearty breakfast, we’ll pack up and begin our descent out via the Gale River Trail.
Today’s hike is approximately 4.6 miles with about 2,250 feet of elevation loss. A steady downhill journey back to the Gale River Trailhead. The trail winds through classic White Mountain forest, following the river as we gradually leave the alpine behind.
Our legs may be feeling the miles from the past few days, but this descent gives us time to reflect on what we’ve accomplished, rugged terrain, big elevation, and one unforgettable hut-to-hut experience.
We’ll finish tired, strong, and proud, the kind of proud you only earn in the Whites.
